What you are looking at
What these photographs show
These are photographs of one building on Jl Raya Pengosekan in Ubud. The hotel, the restaurant, the lounge and the spa are all inside it, which is why the four filters above move between rooms and a chef's counter without leaving the address. What follows describes what is actually in the frames.
Rooms
Rooms: panelled walls, brass pendants, carved screens
The bedrooms photograph as pale panelled rooms with moulded cornices, a wide upholstered headboard, white bedding and a brown throw folded across the foot of the bed. Two brass and glass pendants hang on long cords where bedside lamps would usually sit, one either side. Floors are large pale tiles rather than carpet.
The other frames show the working half of a room. A full-height timber wardrobe runs into open shelving that holds a kettle and two cups. A carved timber lattice screen separates the sleeping area from a marble bathroom, and the amenity bottles sit in a lit niche behind it. Air conditioning is wall-mounted and visible in the frame rather than hidden. Each of the six rooms has its own page carrying the detail, starting with Garden View Room 1.
Kumo Fusion
Kumo Fusion Omakase and Steak: the counter, close up
The restaurant photographs mostly at close range and in low light, because that is how the counter works. One frame is a hand brushing a piece of fish with a hake brush, plated on shiso with a spoonful of caviar, on a dark speckled ceramic plate beside a wheel-thrown cup. Another is the printed menu on reclaimed timber with a candle, shells and a white chrysanthemum, and a heading on it reads From The Fire.
That pairing is the point of the room. Raw work goes out at the counter in a sequence the chef sets, and the grill runs for the tables at the same time. Both menus are described on the Kumo Fusion Omakase and Steak page.
Lounge
Lounge: black leather, carved doors, a balcony
The lounge is the widest room in the set. White panelled walls carry three black and brass disc sconces above a black leather sofa, a tan leather armchair sits opposite, and the floor moves from pale tile onto a marble patterned rug. Tall carved timber screen doors stand open at either end of it, and ceiling fans turn overhead.
One frame looks straight through an arched doorway with sheer curtains to a balcony, where two guests are sitting at a small table with a white balustrade and a green canopy of palms behind them, and a server is carrying a glass out to them. The lounge runs as a café in the morning and changes character in the evening, which the lounge page sets out.
Spa
Spa: towels, oils and a tall arched window
Daylight does most of the work in the spa frames. A made treatment table in white linen carries rolled and folded towels, a stone soap dispenser and three amber bottles of massage oil on a stone tray, with a white chrysanthemum beside them and a small carved wooden dish of shells. A tall arched window behind fills the room with daylight, and a therapist in black stands at the head of the table.
Linen, oil and daylight are the whole setting, with no music stand and no water feature in shot. The treatments themselves, from Balinese massage through to the hair spa, are listed on the spa page, and anything the pictures leave open is usually answered on the guest questions page.
