A beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Ubud with stylish interiors and great attention to detail. I stayed in a Garden View room, which was very comfortable, spotless and peaceful. The staff were incredibly warm, attentive and helpful. I originally booked two nights but loved it so much that I extended my stay by another three. I would definitely return!
A Beautiful modern hotel in the heart of Ubud, very centrally and conveniently located and close to the best shops and restaurants. The hotel has a very beautiful colonial atmosphere, the rooms are clean, modern and stylish. The staff is kind and responsive. It's a great place for a couple or single travellers, it's not really fit for families as it has no infrastructure and special spaces for kids. It's a great place for adult travellers wanting to stay in the very heart of Ubud and enjoy the walking distance to the evening events in Ubud or just visiting the town without the need to use a car or a bike. We will be back!

Two weeks that became four
A couple on a two-year trip through Asia booked two weeks with us and stayed for four, and because they were travelling long-term with more luggage than most guests, our team added a shoe rack to their room before they asked. They celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary during the stay, and our concierge helped arrange orchids for their room. They told us they never needed a scooter, because so much of central Ubud was within walking distance.

How do Riviera rooms in Ubud differ?
There are 28 rooms in the building and six of them are shown on this site, one page each. Cocoon 1 and Cocoon 2 are interior rooms with no external window, which suits anyone who wants a dark room in the middle of the afternoon; Urban View Room 1 looks out over the neighbourhood and the streets around it; Garden View Room 1 faces tropical greenery and treetops. Both of those come with a private balcony.
Each type runs as a pair, and the two are not identical; the second room in each pair varies in bed design, bathroom layout or the entrance, so the photographs on a room page are of that room rather than of its twin. That matters more than it sounds: on most booking sites you are shown one representative photograph of a category and given whatever is free on the night. Every room here is listed for two guests and measures 23 m², with a king bed, air conditioning and complimentary Wi-Fi, so the thing that changes between them is the view and the layout rather than the specification.

Things to do in Ubud without leaving the building
Dinner is Kumo Fusion Omakase and Steak, which has 30 seats. Four of those are at the omakase counter, where the chef sets the courses one at a time and you eat them in the order they arrive. Everyone else orders from the Steak House menu, where a grilled main arrives with a seasonal appetiser, soup of the day, seasonal vegetables, one choice of carb and one signature sauce.
Omakase means "I leave it to you", and that is the whole arrangement: you are not choosing dishes, you are handing the evening over. Worth knowing before you book, because it makes for a different sort of night out than ordering from a menu, and the counter is the seat that runs out first.
Earlier in the day Riviera Lounge runs as a café, with specialty coffee and artisan pastries in the morning, then wine, storytelling nights and small gatherings once it turns into a lounge. It is open to hotel guests and visitors, so you do not have to be staying at Riviera to use it.
The spa is on the same address; massages run from traditional Balinese to deep tissue, aromatherapy and a shorter back, neck and shoulder session. There is reflexology, a salt scrub and a pedicure finished with OPI colours, plus a hair spa with cleansing, a scalp massage and a blow-dry. Sessions run from 15 minutes to 90.
