What Cocoon 2 is, and how it differs
Cocoon 2 shares the interior concept with Cocoon 1: no exterior windows, no balcony, and the same 23 m² for two guests. What changes is the finish, and the change is not subtle once you are standing in it.
The wall behind the bed here is dark walnut rather than white panelling, with slim cylindrical glass pendants dropping on either side and pale textured upholstery on the headboard panels. The bathroom is separated by a full-height carved timber screen instead of a single door, so the room reads as two connected spaces rather than a room with a bathroom off it.
Behind the screen the bathroom is finished in warm stone: a backlit mirror, a rounded basin, a walk-in glass rain shower, and a lit niche cut into the wall for toiletries. A walnut wardrobe with open display shelving stands opposite the bed.
Like Cocoon 1, Cocoon 2 has no exterior window and no balcony, so it stays dark and quiet whatever the hour outside. Where it parts company with its twin is texture.
The walnut wall, the carved screen and the warm stone bathroom give the room a heavier, more enclosed feel, which reads less like a hotel room with the lights off and more like a small private set of rooms. It suits guests who want the dark of an interior room but want it to feel deliberate rather than plain.

A beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Ubud with stylish interiors and great attention to detail. I stayed in a Garden View room, which was very comfortable, spotless and peaceful. The staff were incredibly warm, attentive and helpful. I originally booked two nights but loved it so much that I extended my stay by another three. I would definitely return!
A Beautiful modern hotel in the heart of Ubud, very centrally and conveniently located and close to the best shops and restaurants. The hotel has a very beautiful colonial atmosphere, the rooms are clean, modern and stylish. The staff is kind and responsive. It's a great place for a couple or single travellers, it's not really fit for families as it has no infrastructure and special spaces for kids. It's a great place for adult travellers wanting to stay in the very heart of Ubud and enjoy the walking distance to the evening events in Ubud or just visiting the town without the need to use a car or a bike. We will be back!

How are the bed and bathroom set up in Cocoon 2?
Bedding is a king at 180 × 200 cm. The room is set for two guests, with air conditioning, an in-room safe and daily housekeeping as standard across Riviera.
The bathroom carries a rain shower and natural shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap. Complimentary Wi-Fi, a tea and coffee station and a hair dryer are in the room, and the minibar is charged separately. Filtered water is unlimited through the refill station for the whole stay, with fresh drinking water delivered to the room daily.
The open display shelving on the walnut wardrobe is the one place the room asks to be arranged rather than just used, and the lit niche in the bathroom does the same for toiletries. The backlit mirror and the walk-in glass shower keep the bathroom bright even though the bedroom is dark, so the two halves of the room work at different levels of light. A ceiling fan and the air conditioning handle the air together.
Cocoon 2 is one of 28 rooms at Riviera, where the spa, the lounge and Kumo Fusion Omakase share the same building as the guest rooms. The lounge runs as a cafe for coffee and pastries through the day and turns to wine in the evening.
The spa books Balinese and deep-tissue massage, aromatherapy, foot care and hair treatments. Kumo seats thirty guests a night, four of them at the counter for the chef's omakase and the rest at the steak-house tables from five in the evening.
Riviera stands on Jl Raya Pengosekan, in a part of Ubud that grew up around its painters and still carries galleries and studios along the road. Central Ubud, with its market, palace and temples, is a short walk up the main street, and the cafes and shops the town is known for sit around Riviera. For a dark interior room, that puts the daylight and the noise where guests usually want them, outside, and keeps the room itself for the end of the day.
Riviera runs to six room types across its 28 rooms. Cocoon 1 and Cocoon 2 are the interior pair, Urban View 1 and 2 face the street with a balcony, and Garden View 1 and 2 face the palms with a balcony.

Cocoon 2 tends to be the pick for couples who like a darker, more enclosed room and do not need a view, or for anyone who found Cocoon 1's white panelling a little plain and wants the walnut and stone version instead. Because the two Cocoon rooms are the same size and share the same facilities, the choice between them comes down to finish rather than layout, lighter and simpler or darker and more worked. Either way the room sits a short walk from the lounge, the spa and Kumo.
