For dinner in central Ubud, book ahead at small restaurants that run set sittings. Kumo, the restaurant inside Riviera Boutique Hotel on Jalan Raya Pengosekan, serves dinner from 5pm to 11pm, Tuesday to Sunday, with a four-seat omakase counter and a steak house menu at the tables. Reservations go through WhatsApp.
Central Ubud is compact. Jalan Raya Ubud is the main road, running east to west, with Ubud Palace where it meets Jalan Monkey Forest. Jalan Monkey Forest and Jalan Hanoman both run south from it, and Jalan Raya Pengosekan, where Kumo is, lies south of the Sacred Monkey Forest.
You'll find sit-down restaurants and warungs, the small family-run eateries found all over Indonesia, and most of central Ubud is a short walk or scooter ride from Pengosekan. Our guide to the Balinese dishes to order in Ubud covers what the warungs serve.
When can you have dinner at Kumo?
Kumo opens at 5pm and closes at 11pm, Tuesday to Sunday, and is closed on Mondays. The room has 30 seats and serves up to 60 guests an evening across two sittings, so ask which sitting is free when you book.
In the wet season, roughly November to March, rain usually comes as a heavy afternoon burst and often eases by evening.
How do Kumo's two dinner menus work?
Kumo serves two menus in the same dining room. Four seats face the chef at the omakase counter, where the chef sets every course and you choose only the length: First Encounter at four moments, The Journey at six, The Chef's Selection at eight or The Kumo Experience at ten.
The tables take the steak house menu. You pick one of nine mains, from beef graded by marbling to salmon, butter shrimp and lamb shank, and it comes with a seasonal appetiser, the soup of the day, seasonal vegetables, one carb and one signature sauce. Our guide to steak in Ubud goes through the cuts, and a first omakase dinner explains the counter.
How expensive is dinner in Ubud?
Prices vary a lot between restaurants, so these are Kumo's. The omakase is IDR 800,000 for First Encounter, IDR 1,200,000 for The Journey, IDR 1,600,000 for The Chef's Selection and IDR 2,000,000 for The Kumo Experience. Steak house mains run from IDR 339,000 for the AUS Sirloin MB3 croquette with cheese to IDR 1,000,000 for the MB9 full blood wagyu tenderloin.
Drinks run from IDR 45,000 for a small Bintang to IDR 149,000 and up for cocktails, with mocktails at IDR 85,000. Menu prices leave out tax, and 10% government tax plus an 11% service charge are added to the bill.
How do you book dinner at Kumo?
Reserve on WhatsApp at +62 813-5919-121. Give the date, the number of guests, the sitting you want, counter or table, and any foods you avoid. The team confirms each reservation.
It's a small room, so message ahead in the busy season rather than walking in.
What can you do before and after dinner?
Kumo shares the building with the rest of Riviera. The spa and massage room is open until 9pm, so a 60 minute treatment fits before an early sitting. After dinner the Riviera Lounge serves wine, and guests staying in one of Riviera's 28 rooms are already in the building.
